"I think that the thing about losing someone isn't the loss but the absence of afterward. D'you know what I mean? The endlessness of that."
a haunting and aching look at the loss through the themes of horror of the unknown and what we become in the face of it. astounding, heartbreaking, i have no words.

Haunting and delightfully melancholic. This is one was a slow burn for sure, specifically the middle portions, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The writing was a MasterClass in vivid imagery, memory, and grief.
Graphic: Body horror
Moderate: Confinement, Death, Death of parent, and Panic attacks/disorders
Minor: Cursing

4.5
Oof this book. More of a feeling in words than a story, it’s about a woman who’s wife goes into a submarine for a deep sea mission and the submarine fails and she stays trapped underwater. Switching between the wives points of view Miri - discussing the aftermath of her wife’s return and Leah - describing the time underwater. Hints of magical realism, some descriptions of PTSD and trauma (I mean it’s traumatic begging stuck in a submarine so this is expected).
I enjoyed this a lot but I could see others not liking it. 4.5 stars only because (slight spoiler) why didn’t they ever go to the hospital!??
