A truly common sensical take on not just government overreach, but inequality in general. Paine takes a layman’s approach to get his point across rather than wallowing in the Enlightenment-era Latin rooted philosophical jargon that punctuated most of the writings of the time.

It’s amazing that 245 years later his argument is still extremely relevant. If not now more than ever.

It also goes to show that people have been the same forever. Some want to power and to control others, and most just want to be left alone to live their life in peace. Unfortunately, the former seems to be the norm and the latter causes revolutions and sacrifice.
