I read a digital copy of this from the library and I think I would have liked it more in the coffee table book form. I have been a David Sedaris fan for years and will pick up anything he has written. I am surprised I didn't know about the visual nature of his journals and was very excited to check them out. I read the book as one would a novel, but I think it would have been to better to peruse slowly and sporadically. I understand why they didn't show many pages with entries on them, but that is what I would really have liked to see.

I really loved this compendium. Jeffrey Jenkins did an amazing job with this book. The photographs are stunning with great depth and clever layout. This visual compendium showed us that David is creative in a multititude of platforms, writing being only one. Hugh's cover artwork for each of David's diaries is exceptional and a great touch to the eccentricity of David's ways. I really enjoyed exploring the covers, the collages and artwork within the books, and the diary entries and quotes by David. There were great introductions by David and Jeffrey about the art of diary keeping that set the stage for the entire experience. Well done! A real treat for this fan!

The visual & textural aspects of David's diaries were a delight to me. I mean, obviously, the words are, too, but I already knew that. :)

I found this book on ebay. I'd never heard of it but having read David's books 10's of times each I said sure. It's not like his usual but it's not bad either . I'm not a fan of this art usually but I like the rawness and having read his theft by diaries I could try and picture his head space.
I did not pay 50 bucks but whittled the seller down to 3.00 plus shipping of 4.95.

While this was cool and very interactive, I'm very grateful that I just checked it out from the library, because there's no way on God's green Earth that this book is worth $50.

I'm one of Sedaris' biggest fans and I appreciate all the time it takes him to make this diaries. I also appreciate how visual they are, but I just feel mehh about this whole book.
