This book is terrible. Reading because an acquaintance found it “so funny I had to stop reading at some spots.” I never found the funny parts.

The book succeeded in making me feel better about myself but only because I realized that if it's true people still enjoy spending time with the author (provided she is anything like the book persona in real life), truly all of us have a chance of being loved by someone. Even at our most obnoxious.
If you would enjoy 300+ pages of wilful misunderstandings, derailing conversations à la 'I'm so random lol I can't even count to three without losing my train of thought' and really quite stupid takes, you might enjoy this book. These are 3 of my least favorite things so I hated it.

I was super excited to read this book. I thought it’d be this eccentric yet whimsical perspective but honestly, i didn’t find it entertaining nor “a funny book about horrible things.”
There are some very politically incorrect things in the book that really should have been edited. At one point, Jenny Lawson calls Native Americans “Indians” and doesn’t even honor it - she just complains about being fortunate enough to buy a house that they’re fixing up. Seriously just a privileged person ranting.
Also no real take aways from the book. What was the point of the book? I was expecting there to be a long game of a point where she’s very content with herself despite her adversities. But that’s not the case at all. That the author clearly needs someone to listen to her rants and to capitalize off of it? Yeah, actually, that’s pretty brilliant!
Wait, i just ranted, but probably made a few points, which is more than i can say the book does…

I loved this book! I laughed so hard that it felt like my eyes would explode. I would recommend it to anyone who has depression or lives with someone with it.
I suffer from clinical depression and there were points in the book where I thought "I had this conversation yesterday". It just made it even funnier. I hadn't heard of Jenny Lawson before I read this book and now I am going to go find her other book.

Listening to the audiobook felt like listening to one long manic episode, which may have been the point, but I just didn't jive with the style.
