Unfortunately I ended up seeing the movie before I finished the book so it took away a bit of the story...

Still it was an engaging story, fast paced and very well written. It's pretty interesting how all of these people are so unlikeable yet you feel yourself trying to take sides or at least feeling for them at some points.

Compared to the movie, I really liked that in the book you get to be in both of their minds more which leads to certain things making more sense or being even creepier. And perfect choices for the cast!

Looking forward to reading more from Flynn, I'm very curious to see what else she has up her sleeve, story and writing wise.

I enjoyed this book, but I rated it four stars b/c the ending was jarringly abrupt.

I think I might have rated it higher except the ending.

Maybe I shouldn’t have been surprised because Nick is selfish but I’m tired of novels where people have a baby with an abuser and don’t fight to keep that child away from them. I would have had way more respect or understanding if he had secretly saved his book somewhere. Why a child wouldn’t make your first thought be, “oh shit… I cannot let that innocent baby be raised by a monster”
But again, Nick is such a self serving asshole it makes sense he thinks only about how the kid is good for him.

So I feel like I want to give the writer five stars for totally pulling me in to her story. I was hooked almost right away. But I give it one star for just pure evil inside! Geez, the plot was just haunting and depressing and almost too much. For me, anyway. By the end, I was just really thankful to walk away from the train wreck and look back up to my real, thankfully non-psychotic, family.
