I found myself wondering who to root for at points in this story. The book was fun in that sense, messed up but oddly fun. I listened to it rather than reading it and found myself engaged enough that I actually wanted to finish the book. I could imagine, and found myself drifting into the vision of, the actual writer crafting the story and I don't know if that was brilliant or sloppy. (I also got a kick out of telling my husband about the "story" in the book I was listening to. That made for interesting breakfast conversation.) Well-drawn characters make this a book I would recommend.

Holy shit. That's my best summary for this book: holy shit. If you think you would enjoy a 400+ page story of two people entangled in a neurotic, co-dependent web of fucked-up insanity, read this book. You're never sure who is right and who is wrong, who to hate and who to root for, and it leaves an overall feeling of slimy unease in your stomach the whole time you're reading. And I mean that in the best possible way. I've been reading Stephen King since I was eleven and a book has never made me feel the way this book made me feel. If you like psychological drama and mindfucks, read Gone Girl.

The first part was good. The book seemed to be leading up to a twist, and boy did it. It was not the twist I was expecting. I thought Amy was a complete sociopath and ended up just hating her character. I felt completely sorry for her husband. The book ends in a pathetic and sad way. I can't say that I really enjoyed it. I listened to this book on a trip. I didn't hate the writing style but found it complete unbelievable that a women could pull of years of lying like she did, not to mention complete deceit!
