Initially, I was like ok Ryat is annoying and needs to chill, but once I knew he was in love with Blakely and the things he would do to protect her made the book better. Spice incorporated with thriller *chefs kiss.*
Still unsure how I feel about dark romance though. Even though it was consensual, it still kind of gave me the ick. Will definitely finish the series though.

I love a good secret society book, and wow… this one was phenomenal. Dark romance is my thing, and this hit all my favourite vibes, dark initiations, questionable choices, and that addictive pull that keeps you reading way past your bedtime.
Honestly, I thought Haunting Adeline was dark… until I read The Ritual. Shantel Tessier’s writing just drags you in and doesn’t let go, I flew through this one. It’s a total “reading until 2am, sneaking chapters at lunch, ignoring the laundry” type of book.
Ryat? Let’s talk about him. He’s not just morally grey, he’s morally black. At first I wasn’t sure if I liked him because he’s so intense, but by the end he had fully earned his place as a top book boyfriend.
I try really hard not to do spoilers in my reviews (because I love going in blind), so trust me, (without spoiling anything) you need to read this. If you’re into dark romance with secret societies, initiations, and questionable consent, you’re going to devour this book.
One last thing, please make sure to check the trigger warnings before diving in. But once you’re ready… prepare to get lost in the Lords.
