A collection of the first cases our hero's have taken on with the B. P. R. D.

Liz's story was pretty well done. We've gotten more of a look at her history than we have so far, the accidental burninating of her family and friends, as well as her first ghost hunting trip with the professor.
It was also really nice to see Roger again, I miss that poor homunculus. Here he killed his first zombie and human with Hellboy and learned it doesn't get much easier.
I also like Johann Krauses story, I think we knew what had happened to him for him to be stuck im his plasma form, but what happened afterwords is also very interesting, I'd like to read the actual conclusion of that.

A collection of nifty origin stories for some beloved BPRD characters. Johann's ("The Ectoplasmic Man") is the best, though the three issue "The Dead Remembered", Liz' story, is pretty good, too.

I am so, so glad to finally get to read this.
The Dead Remebered was my first BPRD experience, but I only had the first issue. My mum got it for me along with a bunch of other random comics in a box from our local thrift store. It took me forever to actually find a copy of Being Human so that I could finish the story. About 8 years.
That said, as happy as I am to finally finish reading The Dead Remembered, it isn't my favourite of the stories in this volume. That honour goes to The Ectoplasmic Man. I enjoyed all the other stories well enough, but The Ectoplasmic Man was just... phenominal to me.

For new readers and mignolaverse completionists note, this trade paperback collects some comics already available in other Mike Mignola collections. The comic "Being Human" is collected in Hellboy Omnibus Volume 2: Strange Places. "B.P.R.D: Casualties" is collected in the omnibus Abe Sapien: The Drowning and Other Stories, though this particular story can work with both the Abe Sapien omnibus and this collection since it's tied to Agent Liz Sherman's comic "The Dead Remembered". Though personally, I think "Casualties" works better with Abe's omnibus.

I'm going to be frank here, I don't see a new reader picking this up and enjoying it unless they've had prior exposure to some B.P.R.D. comics or characters, though the stories collected here are pretty good, quality wise. For my fellow completionists, or chronological timeline readers, you'll get only a couple new stories not collected elsewhere in this volume "The Dead Remembered" and Johann Kraus's origin comic. Keep that in mind before trying to track this collection down.
