Especially Heinous was awful, perhaps because I was listening to the audiobook? this may have been more tolerable in written form.

Favourites included The Husband Stitch, Inventory and Eight Bites. I will read anything that Machado writes, but some of these stories just missed the mark for me.

i thought this was fine! i liked how different all of the short stories were and there was a type of weirdness to this book that only women will understand.

Machado’s gift is her lyrical, poetic prose—and it’s here in abundance. While In the Dream Houseremains my favorite of her works, this collection still had some real standouts such as “Real Women Have Bodies” and “The Resident.”
