I am fascinated by all types of folklore, so I enjoyed reading this collection of fables and seeing what they teach about human nature and morality. It’s incredible that these stories have been around for thousands of years!
The introduction by D. L. Ashliman was great. His thoughts were very well organized and informative. I love how he gave context to the fables then explored patterns and explained themes within them.
Some of the fables seemed unclear, pointless, repetitive, or even controversial in my opinion. But that’s okay. With a collection of 284 tales I was bound to dislike some. Most of them I did enjoy, though. There were some funny ones, profound ones, relatable ones. Overall, these stories will provide interesting dinner conversations for me and husband so it was definitely worth the read.

They might be old, but they're still pretty applicable. The fable's are VERY short, too, so reading them doesn't take up much time.
Nice little collection of fables. Some new ones and some familiar, but nice to get refreshed on how the stories are told and where expressions come from. I don’t necessarily agree with all of the wisdom, some of which is pretty unforgiving and rigid, but I feel like this is an important cultural reference point.

Was shocked at how many fables there are attributed to Aesop (over 200) and how short they are lol. I thought they would have more depth that I never knew about but no, most of them are only a few sentences long.
A few definitely don’t stand the test of time (slavery), and a few others had me scratching my head, but overall it was a thought provoking exercise.

Aesop's Fables was precious. The premise is about 280 short - medium paragraphs that teach people a lesson.
Aesop could have been a freed slave who was murdered, or he could have been a group of fable tellers. These fables have been around since around 600BCE, so no one will ever really know.

What can I say? Everyone loves Aesop's Fables (don't they?).
I think there was something lost in the translation with this edition. Maybe it was done by the customer service personnel between email replies. The writers of Aesop & Son from the Rocky & Bullwinkle show did a much better job.
