A really good book if you're into historical fiction. She takes her true family store and weaves details from theirs and other's stories to flesh this out into a wonderful novel grounded deeply in truth.
Since her immediate lineage managed not to end up in concentration camps, there is none of that horror (although plenty of other). The one thing I feel like she skirted was any sexual abuse. There is no mention of even an inappropriate touch by a man in power and I find that difficult to believe.
I do appreciate her highlighting some of the wonderful acts that people--even in the worst of circumstances and with possible danger to themselves--extended to friends and strangers. To know that there were slivers of good in the evil times.
