Reading about Nazi Germany during America's descent into fascism is so painful I am giving up now that a different book has arrived from library. It was very well-written and the characters and their experiences give a heartrending glimpse into the full spectrum of the Holocaust. Please read it if only to remind yourself how much we have to lose if we don't speak and act against #45 and his demagoguery.

Good story 3.5 stars. I didn’t get into the characters as much as I did in other historical fiction novels I have read lately. Still recommend.

Very good story but so slow! This took me forever to read because I just couldn’t read very much at a time. It was hard to keep the family members straight, especially Anna and Halina. I can’t believe this was a true story =(
