Ok honestly thought I wasn’t going to enjoy this one as much as the previous books because I took one look at that family tree and just went “NOPE” and let’s just say Toby Durbridge I am extremely disappointed in you. I DID NOT READ OVER 400 PAGES OF PINING JUST FOR YOU TO STICK IT ELSEWHERE!
Once I got over that however I was hooked as per usual, Malorie once again I adore you and the only reason this was a 4* is strictly because of the cliffhanger ending.

Character analysis because we have newbies and why not:
Sephy: glad to see your redeeming yourself on the motherhood front. 2nd times a charm I guess, however you’re saying “no glove, no love” to the wrong person *side eyes toby*.

Sonny: I like you but why are you being so suspicious now??? I swear to god I pitied you in checkmate and if you’re playing us all I’m so done.

Callie: ok miss Elle Woods absolutely get it I’m so proud of you! You are an angel you can do no wrong I adore you so much keep being you bby.

Toby: ….I’m gonna chop your dick off. (Idc if you slightly redeemed yourself at the end I’m still mad at you.
You have one more book left to fix your priorities sir).

Troy: I’m sorry you have such a frat boy name and all I could think was Zack Efron but I like you so far you’re pretty cool. Also very petty which I’m here for, please don’t make me hate sonny though idk if I can do that.

Libby: yikes you drew the short straw parent wise I’m so sorry hon, you’ve got both bark and bite though which I like a lot and you deserve so much better than what you’re getting rn.

Actually very much looking forward to end game and very much ready for the tears to be shed.

4.5 Stars, rounded up

The Noughts and Crosses series is one of those series that I believe everyone needs to read, even if only the first book. I was hesitant and excited for the release of this book, but was greatly thrilled with what Malorie produced!

Plot

The plot may have started off a bit slow for me and I didn't feel too invested in what was going on, but the second half of the book really took off and THANKS FOR THE CLIFFHANGER. I'll be taking that 6th book now please and thank you. The mystery of WHODUNNIT was intriguing and I couldn't work out whether or not I thought Tobey had done it! A+ for the mystery aspect.

Setting

This world is a bit different to the world that was last pictured in the likes of Double Cross. Progress has been made, Noughts are beginning to get further in this Cross dominated world, but it's still difficult and labels are rife. It's concerning seeing the real life links to 2019 and events that are taking place around the world.

Characters

Ohhh how I missed these characters. While there are two new characters, Troy and Libby, we still get a lot of Callie-Rose and Tobey chapters. Sephy is often present, but plays a smaller role in this book.

Troy and Libby frustrated the hell out of me. I wanted them both to get their heads out of their arse and THINK for a damn MOMENT! I loved seeing them come together in times of trouble and finally start to see each other for just other human beings in a tricky situation.
