Loved it, couldn't put it down!

Will say did listen on 2x speed, 1x was dreadfully slow

A tale that above all demonstrates the strength of women in a world made against them and how love for your fellow people is the strongest weapon you have.

This was the first Naomi Novik book I read and immediately after finishing I went out to get Uprooted. The writing in this is phenomenal both in terms of character and setting. It had the feel of a classic fairytale but was entirely fresh! Miryem was a fantastic protagonist,  I absolutely loved the world built around her and how her Judaism was woven into the fabric of the story.  Wonderful wintery read!

ES:

Un retelling interesante y oscuro...largo a veces, pero bellamente escrito.

EN:

A very compelling story that spins the Rumpletilskin story a bit. Very atmospheric and dark, it tells its narrative as a very well-crafted spider web.

I loved this! I can't wait to read her other book based on Eastern European folktales. It was utterly enchanting. I stayed up way later than I should have reading this, it was fantastic.
Update for reread: I just really love how well the storylines intersect. Like all of my favorites, I feel very satisfied with the end and still I wish there was more.

This was a very different twist of similar Russian folk lore so reading it right after the Winter of the Witch was a little surreal. There were a few too many first person perspectives in the end, for a personal preference at least.
