At the end, one of the characters likened the book to Giovanni’s Room, and that is such an accurate description of the book. You do get this sense of claustrophobia by the end of part one, but instead of relief in part two, it becomes worse. The ending messed with my head a little bit and had me question how much of this book was fiction.

The structure of this book is what caught my attention the most. The story is raw, powerful and quite hard to read at some points. I'm interested to read more of this author's books.

This was such a beautifully crafted novel. I read it in one sitting and was just in awe the entire time. Noor Naga weaves the story of two people from two incredibly different places in life and talks about what it means to belong to a country and to another person.

This book was so difficult to read but it was also just so stunning.

the ppl who think this book is bad bc the boy from shobrakheit was an abusive misogynist were reading this half asleep, like yes that’s kind of the point, he’s not supposed to be a good person, get out of ur eurocentric lens it talks so much at length about the author’s struggle to reconcile between these two clashing cultures, ur literally the annoying ppl in the writing workshop at the end. Also the split narrative isn’t that hard to follow
