A whimsical book about people with magical powers who can help you forget bad memories sounds good, however there was zero world building and the writing is simple and very confusing. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s translated, but this completely missed the mark for me. Book #66 in 2025

While the premise of this novel was very intriguing, it didn't really work for me. I'm not sure if it was the writing style itself or the translation, but the writing was so choppy I often had a hard time keeping track of what was going on in the story, and the dialogue was jarring. It never engaged me and even though it was a relatively short read, it felt like a bit of a slog to get through. I can see the appeal for some readers, but it wasn't for me.

This is a reflective emotionally rich book about a woman consumed by the disappearance of her parents. Believing she can’t be happy until she finds them, she shuts herself off from joy and connection. As she helps others cleanse emotional wounds in her mind laundry, she gradually begins to confront her own. Through these connections, she learns to let go of the past, embrace the present and find self-worth — not through answers, but through the unexpected family she builds. A quiet, moving story of healing and belonging.

What if you could wash the stains off your heart? All or part of the memories that hurt, the regrets that keep resurfacing, the pain that won’t quite leave? Marigold Mind Laundry plays with that idea in such a fascinating way.

Wrapped in magical realism, each story explores a world where people can choose what to keep and what to let go. Some want to forget completely. Others just want the pain to dry, so they can carry it with a little less weight.

🔖That’s what stayed with me: the reminder that pain shows up differently for all of us. Some of us survive by forgetting. Some survive by holding on and reshaping it. There’s strength in both choices.

At its core, this book is about how we cope with difficult emotions, and how our choices shape our identity. 💭Can we really choose who we become? Or are we shaped by what we carry and what we release?

A quietly powerful read that left me reflecting on the difficult questions and how I choose to cope and heal along the way too.

DID NOT FINISH: 39%

Just didn’t motivate me - although I liked that each section was kind of a vignette. You could read a part and then come back and read another part weeks later.
