The writing style got a little annoying at times, with very British slang despite being set in California, but I’ve loved the movies for a long time so I loved this too.
For a Wattpad story it was alright, for a published book it was pretty bad.
All the clichés, girl hate (well, not so much hate but all the girls could talk about shopping or boys, Elle kept saying they weren't her type and took the Mick out of them), little charcater development and generic characters really added up to form one disappointment of a book.
Noah's character just made me cringe. He was so problematic and his actions of trying to control what she was wearing, getting angry so easily and shutting Elle up with a kiss whenever she was arguing with him... He's just so problematic I dislike his character so much.
The plot itself went so quick, as typical of a Wattpad story, and events like Elle's bikini top coming off in front of everyone was just awkward when you remember she's only 16 then...

DONT JUDGE ME I wanted to see if the characters are as annoying in the books as they are in the movies
Loved this one! It felt like a light-hearted, fun, quick little summer read! I reccomend.
I felt happy with the conclusion and I thought it was dragging on unnecessarily

One of the worst books I've read that managed to sneak its way into my life at the right moment to not hate it.
Characters: (2/10 ⭐️)
Bland and one dimensional, with splotches of random names thrown. I disliked Shelly (Ella?) mainly because she was the typical stupid female protagonist that lived in her own bubble. Noah is equally a walking red flag for whom it makes no sense to be so perfect other than him being a "violence" junkie. Everyone makes sure to remind Ella that she's so lucky to have him though. Lee is weird because he screams gay bestie, acts very dramatically about Noah and Ella being together, but also is actually a good friend and an even better boyfriend. But he's not that much in this book, so all his good attributes are missed. I didn't understand Ella's dad, I liked her brother but he only had like four lines and I absolutely disliked all of Ella's friends except Rachel.
Atmosphere: (3/10 ⭐️)
I always felt either completely the opposite of what I should feel (eg. I cringed when I was supposed to feel romance, got angry when I was supposed to be happy) or I felt the right emotion for the wrong reasons. For example,. I was supposed to relate to Ella, but instead I was so angry at how she reacted. Or when . The more I think the more I can rant about this.
Writing: (5/10 ⭐️)
Pretty basic writing that anyone can produce and should be the lowest acceptable publishable writing. (Not the standard though.)
Plot: (1/10 ⭐️)
Literally nothing original? Sure, I don't know if I've ever heard about a Kissing Booth before, but that was only in one chapter of the entire book. The rest only included a hidden relationship, a disappointed best friend and the "my best friend's brother is the one for me" plot.
Intrigue: (2/10 ⭐️)
Did not care much. I knew the plot, and in books like this, knowing the plot means you know the middle and you know the end.
Logic: (3/10 ⭐️)
Not much logic there. I 100% support than no school would allow a Kissing Booth, like... what happened was basically sexual use of minors (granted by other minors etc, but still it's like high school special edition prostitution). Save that for adults and sex workers. Then again, characters like Noah were inconsistent (eg he got angry that one guy asked Ella out on a date, but wasn't angry that Warren literally exposed her breasts in front of their entire friend group?). Lee got over the betrayal so fast, the parents are absent all the time, someone let Noah literally rent a motel room at age 17, Mr. Perfect Noah also has the best life balance between his grades, football, engineering his car and bike while also beating every other dude but, Ella is in constant denial about having feelings for Noah and so much more. Logic left the chat.
Enjoyment: (4/10 ⭐️)
The only reason I picked this book up is because right before it I had read the Bell Jar and 1984, so I wanted something stupidly dumb and easy to read so that my braincells can regenerate. It served its purpose, I relaxed, I had my fun even if that meant getting angry at the characters or just reading to read. Also, I can proudly say I found purpose for a book like this and I am one book closer to reading all my physical TBR that this was included in. Thankfully, I can say that if I had read this book any other time in my life, it would be in risk of great hate from me, but having read it now, it actually served its purpose for the money I spent on it. That being said, I'll never buy the sequels, but I do have the movies in mind for any time I'm feeling sad and need a bad pick-me-up movie.

when that guy at the second party sexually assaults (and yes I think that was SA) Ella, Noah saves her and punches him in the ribs. Instead of Ella being thankful for the save, when she hears a rumor about her abuser having a broken rib, she blames Noah for it and actually repeats many times that the other dude did nothing wrong. Nice message to the (maximum) 15y.o. that this book targetsSpoiler

I also know that Noah cheats on Ella in the next book/movie? Sooooo yeah, no interest in more red flags from him. :)
I’ve just finished this book and it was amazing! I could not put it down and some of the things that were said made me laugh out loud. This is great for anyone who may have seen the film already or is thinking of watching it , certainly deserves a 5* rating!
lighthearted
relaxing
medium-paced
Mucho mejor que la película. Tiene más sentido. Y me ha ayudado en un parón lector. Tiene situaciones un poco absurdas pero me ha encantado. Se lee rápido.
