The Kissing Booth

One of those guilty-pleasure romance stories, which was exactly what I expected it to be.

Kinda only read it because I saw the movie was coming out on Netflix.

3.5 stars

I read this book because I watched the movie and I wanted to see if it was anything like the movie. It's pretty different, to be completely honest.

I just say I have to be impressed with this in a way for someone who wrote it when they were 15. And people really need to stop tearing into her for it being in Wattpad, as if nothing good could be published from Wattpad; it's pretty elitist. That said, I have found that when books are published from Wattpad, there is very little editing. There were some grammatical mistakes, but not enough to completely take away from the book. What did take away from the book, though, was the lingo used. There were very British sayings in here that completely took away the feel of it being in California. While it's not a massive deal, it was a bit jarring at times.

I think one of the more frustrating things was Elle. She was technically sexually assaulted and she just brushed it off as if it wasn't a big deal. Noah and Lee seemed to understand that it was wrong. It was also heavily emphasized that she was naive, and that was something that definitely shined through in those moments. A guy touched and kissed her when she didn't want him to. That is assault, not a drunken mistake. I think more depth with that including discussion would have been better because young, impressionable people could he reading this and think it is okay when it's not.

The beginning of the book was good, but about halfway through it started to fall a bit flat. It seemed to drag on for me. There was not a lot of push for plot. There wasn't a lot of conflict and it was so short lived. Overall, I think the book was fine. I think people who like fluffy books where the couple is mostly together with little conflict may enjoy this book. I do not think it was horrible or bad, I just wanted more to it. Like I said, pretty impressive for a young teen!

Increased my rating from 4 stars. I feel that this time I was able to separate the movie and the book in my head a little more. The final chunk of this book literally reduced me to tears because of how much I miss Cole right now.

Really enjoyed this book. Like the book and the film for different reasons, and struggled to compare them. Was hoping for more details of the romance (because I'm weird like that), which you don't get.
emotional funny lighthearted

The movie was better..

COULD NOT FINISH

it's sooooo bad. I'm so upset that I bought this. Why did I? *sniffle*

The movie wasn't great, okay. It was pretty bad too. I just thought, the book would be better. But somehow, it is worse.

I read this because I liked the movie and wanted to read the book. It is probably the quickest read I've ever read as an adult. And if you've seen the movie, you almost don't need to read the book. It always felt like "I've read this before" because the movie was such a close adaptation.
