While there were some fun and scary twists and turns, and I didn’t guess the end until just before the end... it was a so so book. The whole book was written in a kind of goosebumpy voice that was equally as cheesy in parts. The characters didn’t have their own voice. Fun read but maybe just for the beach or pool where you don’t care about the quality of writing as much.
2.5
I'm surprised this is Sager's best reviewed book (if you can put any stock in Goodreads reviews) because I found it the most lacking. If his previous book was a take on Rosemary's Baby this one is a take on Hill House to much less effect. Too many glaring conveniences to overlook and the format is becoming terribly played out. Another easy read but I wouldn't tell anyone to rush out and grab it.

Not sure why all these horror thriller books are on my radar right now but they’re a great escape from current life. If you don’t mind ghosts and the “uncanny”... go for it. I enjoyed it a lot.
Extremely engaging with twists and turns. Every time you think you learn something the author throws a curve ball. I really enjoyed the format of the book as well as it kept the pages turning! I think that it was a bit scary for me to read at night because the few times I did I was spooked big time but I am also a major wuss. It was one of the best books I’ve read in a while!

This was disappointing after enjoying Riley Sager's other books so thoroughly. The story potential felt stronger than the execution with the focus and pacing feeling a bit off. I don't need every loose end tied up to feel satisfied but this one left too many things fuzzy and lost some of the impact of stategically leaving a few things unresolved.
Riley Sager never ceases to amaze me. Their writing style is unique and captivating. Every book is better than the last.
