I HAVE THOUGHTS

i only have about 4 or 5 thrillers that have managed to get 5 stars from me and this is one of them! besides the fact that this was so wild and i read 300 pages in once sitting today, it was also amazing in every other way possible!

haunted house ✅
likable main character ✅
addictive as fuck✅
fast past ✅
crazy twist ✅

home before dark also incorporates so many good topics into the story. parental abuse, memory altercation/suppression, loss of self identity, grief, and trauma, all play such a huge part in this story. i can’t believe i almost gave up on riley sager after dnf’ing ‘the last time i lied’ last year. time to buy and read everything he’s written!

I really enjoyed this book. It kept me guessing until the very end! Creepy at times, as well.

I had so much fun reading this! Sager really knows how to create an atmospheric setting - one that leaves you creeped out! Just a great thriller from him. Not a huge fan of ‘supernatural’ type stuff, but it worked really well in this novel.

No more Riley Sager for me. The FMC was flat and one-dimensional and the twist was asinine.

Riley Sager does it again y’all! I read this book in the middle of the day and I was very thoroughly creeped out. It was fun to imagine the picture he paints of Baneberry Hall and there’s just one mystery after the other. It goes from past to present POVs, her fathers account when they lived there and then her account as an adult. You can really feel just how much it has affected their lives, Maggie especially with how estranged she feels and how even though Maggie doesn’t believe in anything her father said, she really wants to understand what’s happened. Even I found myself questioning reality. Are ghosts real? Are they all crazy?
