3.5ish in my opinion. The supernatural arch was good and definitely I didn't have the ending completely figured out from the beginning. I think the hype around this one may have made me want to like it more. It was enjoyable but the wrap up at the end felt rushed, feeling as though the conclusion of many parts and storylines were explained only over just a few pages. It wasn't a bad ending, I just so enjoyed the first three quarters of the book that the ending kind of felt

I think the dual perspective of Maggie and excerpts from her dad's book made for interesting story telling. Riley Sager really loves writing wild, overly stuffed endings though though. It was a fun ending but there was like million "plot twists" until you got the truth

Okay this book legitimately scared me at some points. An interesting story with a book within a book that highlights different timelines around a seemingly haunted house. Some of it was a little unbelievable and there were a few twists I didn’t expect even at the end of the book. Overall, not a bad read and I definitely wanted to keep reading.

4 // i LOVED that the apparent conclusion had you thinking oh well this is a bit anticlimactic and then the actual plot twists started and your jaw had to be picked up off the floor. really enjoyed this, kept me on my toes right til the very end.
the implication of baneberry hall being haunted by several generations of victims made this actually scary at times.

Solid 4.5 stars but not quite 5 in my books. A little more horror-y than I am used to but still couldn’t stop once I started!
