I really enjoyed this! I am, however, old and jaded so it didn’t scare me, and I think if it had I might’ve given it the full five stars.
Horror or thriller? Either way, this book delivers so many twists that my head is still spinning!
My first read by Riley Sager and definitely won't be my last, his writing is great- not too complex and kept me interested the whole time.
4 stars tho cuz Maggie is dumb. If you had any inkling your house was haunted, like if people were telling you that you were gonna die if you stayed there, WHY WOULD YOU STAY THERE? Couldn't be me.
Also, the ending plot twist was good, but not crazy. I wasn't shocked like I hoped to be.
A perfect spooky book for October!

This is my first Riley Sager book and it was better than I expected. The characters weren't developed very well and many felt like plot conveniences more than actual people. But I often felt scared and creeped out during it though and the ending was twisty enough to surprise me. Overall I enjoyed it.
A haunted mansion in Vermont that’s sat empty since the last inhabitants fled 25 years ago. Families with secrets. A daughter looking for the truth. This novel has a great set up, execution, and resolution. I enjoyed every minute of this scary gothic mystery.
The only thing I didn’t like is the title, which doesn’t seem to capture the vibe of the novel.

Riley Freaking Sager has done it again! His twists and turns that keep you guessing (and guessing wrong) continue in book after book of his. This novel truly did not disappoint, and I am already looking forward to his next book! The thing I loved most about this book was his book within a book story line. If you are looking for good old fashion mysteries that you will never guess the endings, then this is the author for you!
