A fun mix of mystery and ghost story. But there were one too many twists in the end, all unraveling in the last 10 pages.
I absolutely devoured this book.
The book follows Maggie who after the death of her father, goes back to her childhood home to try and unravel the truth about their rapid departure. According to Maggie's father, and the best selling book he wrote, they left because they were being terrorised by the ghosts that resided in the house. Despite growing up in the shadow of this book and it's fictionalised version of her, Maggie has never believed it to be the true story.
The combination of thriller and supernatural worked so well for me and is unlike anything I've read before. I love stories where there is a book within a book and this fits into that category wonderfully. The alternating chapters between present day and The Book kept me invested the full way through and I loved how the two stories were almost told in parallel.
I genuinely had nightmares after reading this but would recommend it to anyone.
