Just as was stated in the author’s note, this was a very different story than The Serpent and the Wings of Night. More introspective and character driven than plot and action heavy. A Beauty and the Beast tale with a twist. Between Oraya and Lilith, I relate more to Lilith, but I feel like SatWoN held my interest more. What I will say is that one of my favorite parts of the world of Crowns of Nyaxia is actually the callousness and otherness of the gods. How can you give your life or devotion to a being that has no care or concern for you? And even if you aren’t one of the faithful, how can you work against or around the machinations of a god? Completely accidental that I heard about this novella just before book two is set to release. The first was one of my five star reads last year and I hope the second continues the trend.

Carissa WRECKS ME every time. I got through most of this book thinking “Nope I’m not going to cry at this one. Too short. Not enough time to love these characters. I’ve got this.”
