‘I think our time is up.
I know.
Hold my hand.
Hold your hand?
Yes. I want you to.
All right. Why?
Because that’s what people do when they’re waiting for the end of something.’

Probably the best written McCarthy I've read so far just in terms of using really gripping language. The entire thing is a dialogue between two people without the use of dialogue tags and yet it really captured my attention.
But in no way can I recommend it. As fascinating as the philosophical conversation is - which trades on the moral impact of postmodernism and the shaky ground of social mores in a relativist worldview, to be a bit reductive - the application of that is a thematic underbelly that I find unjustifiable and have no desire to tread in again.
But hey. We'll always have The Road.

The format of this book, as a pairing (sequel?) to the Passenger was much more straightforward. It felt more like listening to a philosophy lecture than a story. This book definitely adds more clarity and texture to The Passenger, and in some ways I'm not sure why they weren't just one book all together. Definitely one of the most experimental and challenging pair of books I've ever read. Amazing what has come out of McCarthy's 89 year old brain! LOL

I'm pretty dumbfounded that CMcC is cabable of writing a book like this. Though a fallen mathematician myself I didn't have an easy time making sense of much of it. As it is though I'm thinking about breaking out my old copy of Munkres and diving back in.
