I didn't realize this was a sequel lmao.

A great reflective sequel (though it occurs first chronologically, wait it gets better) to the Passenger which was my 2022 book of the year. An epic interview of insanity, deception, suicide, love, and mathematics. A completely great book which should be read.
challenging dark medium-paced

A great companion to The Passenger and makes me want to go back to the first book to put some of the pieces in place.

“I know that you can make a good case that all of human sorrow is grounded in injustice. Ands sorrow is what is left when rage is expended and found to be impotent.” The door slides closed. Footsteps heading towards the chair, the seat taken. Clearing of the throat. The silence. The ticking of the clock on the wall. Let us begin. The intimacy of it. Two people, two voice talking. Question, answer. What is shared cannot be taken back. The shadow of remembrance. Of what has come before. Time and events half remembered and poorly reported. Dependency on what will follow. A tale yet to be told by Schrödinger's cat in the form of a brother - dead or alive waiting for a time to be revealed. One cannot exist without the other. Time is up. What do we have? A testimony and a confession. It turns inward and we turn with it, examining and listening, drawn further in. Yet could this could not stand on its own, read without knowing what will come. Thus, its poignancy. Thus, its flaw. “I'm not really concerned about what other people believe. I don't consider them qualified to have an opinion.”

Read user Meike’s review.

Personally, I love the philosophy. It works that part of my brain that earned a b.s. in philosophy, in ways it’s usually not.

Also, while he’d been writing this for decades, feels as if he finished it knowing he was near the end.

Stellar. Finally fiction for math (and philosophy) buffs! And even for those who are not but have paused to consider the why of existence of the human condition. The first novel in a long time that I simply couldn't put down.

I decided the read Stella Maris first and then continue to The Passage. Can't wait. I hope I made the right choice (for me at least).

Beautiful, brilliant minds and excruciating sadness.

Works fine as background material for the Passenger, but read the Passenger first.
Goes really deep on topics of Math and Philosophy, advanced knowledge of either is necessary to understand any of it.
