My October reads have been HITTING. I recommend every book I’ve read this month so far. This book was no exception. Great book!

I kept waiting for this book to get super good. It was such a slow story, it took me forever to get through it. The writing was good, the plot had promise, but it just didn’t hit home for me.

As a thriller book, I didn’t like a single character in this story. I absolutely couldn’t STAND Harper and her vlog. Her way of speaking to her viewers made me cringe so much.

The ending didn’t improve my rating of the book. It was an intense last 50 pages but I was also able to predict some of the ending. I will say that last twist surprised me, I won’t lie there.

This book, overall, wasn’t bad. But there are so many better thrillers out there than this one.

This book kept me guessing and wondering until the very last page. I loved how it kept me engaged the whole time. I could never actually guess what was happening next. I absolutely loved it!

What a whirlwind!

I’ve seen this book compared to some of my favorites from 2023, so it was buzzing on my shelf.

It has a lot that thriller-lovers will be drawn to:
- lots of reveals
- dark, traumatic backstories
- a deep dive into psychopathy
- creepy kids
- complexities of motherhood/parenthood

There were parts of this story I loved. There were other parts that were okay, especially towards the end. It had so many elements that I enjoy, but maybe it was trying to do too much? Overall, I was thoroughly entertained and recommend this to fans of domestic suspense and Lisa Jewell’s darker work!

RATING: I liked it! (3.5⭐️)

Psycho Mom and psycho Son family; domestic abuse family; posh blogger family. All have their own stories full of twists which is very entertaining; the writing is crisp and grips you; I really liked how Tess displayed the characters, you really get to know them; with an ending that leaves you a bit gobsmacked.

Thank you Netgalley and Avon Books UK for this ARC.

The New House by Tess Stimson

So this book took me a while to get into, at 30% I wanted to DNF. But I stuck it out and it was definitely worth it. I had no idea where we were going throughout most of the book and I was completely shocked by the ending. There were a few plot holes but I felt like I could pretty much ignore those and still enjoy the book.

The writing was all right it wasn’t anything amazing or over the top special.

The ending was ridiculously over the top but for some weird reason I enjoyed that.

The plot was unique and not some thing I’ve read before.

I had no idea what to expect when I read this book and I was genuinely surprised and shocked that I enjoyed it. I did have an extremely hard time rating it though
