A solid concept with great narrators! The book moved a the right pace, there was resolution, and it wasn’t all about black trauma. Thank goodness!! I loved that the author showed the brothers’ relationships towards each other, their mothers, and their shared father. The different perspectives were nice to read, and there were plenty of plot twists! I was rooting for Amir and Marcel’s relationship the whole time  and I’m glad they stopped being mad at one another. I was happy to see that Marcel -the younger brother- continued to fight to free Marcel, and fought for them to strengthen their relationship. I’m glad they became brothers who get along and watch out for each other,
even against their raggedy father who could’ve tried to be in Amir’s life more, even if Amir’s mother pushed him away. Marcel even told his mom how foul it was of her to wreck a married couple, and really protected Marcel emotionally while Amir protected Marcel physically. I’m also glad that their father apologized.
The mystery that unfolds keeps you glued to the book, waiting to see what happens next.
and for it to have been some creepy secretive racist “slave” game from the white students, who pretended to “own” the black students?? DARK!!! And Chloe was murdered because she was planning on exposing all these entitled rich white assholes! A very twisted and thought-out plot!
I highly recommend this book!

Really enjoyed the fast pace nature of the book. I think the novel did a great job on highlighting race, social status, youth bullying and family abandonment. Some parts did give a bit of public service announcement, but was really enjoyable and would definitely recommend.
