WOW. This took me a long time to finish. I’m glad I read it, since it’s a clear forefather of many modern fantasy stories, but I’d be lying if I said it was my favorite.

This trilogy never gets old. It seems like a reread it every year or 2 now and it’s still just as great with every reread. I love discovering/realizing new things every time I reread this one. There’s so many layers to Tolkien’s world and story. Truly a classic.

If you’re looking for diversity though, I wouldn’t recommend reading any of his books. Lol. They’re all sadly lacking in POC/female characters (the Haradrim as the twice-mentioned-POC bad guy’s lackeys and Eowyn as the sole “strong female character” in this whole trilogy won’t get you very far). You’d be better off watching Rings of Power- which I also really enjoy and very much recommend. =p

Not sure we deserve this. Too beautiful. Too perfect. Tolkien’s characters display an altruistic spirit that humanity has rarely lived up to. The Lord of the Rings is about a true, deep love for your fellow man. Definitely in a homoerotic way but also in just a very nice, hopeful, genuinely touching way. This book is so special. And it has Tom Bombadil.

Fellowship Power Rankings:
  1. Sam
  2. Aragorn II, King Elessar Telcontar, the Elfstone, Gamertag @Strider
  3. Gandalf (takes it pretty easy)
  4. Merry
  5. Pippin
  6. Frodo
  7. Gimli aka Loverboy
  8. Boromir
  9. Legolas (could have stayed home)
