These stories are lovely! There’s an awesome thread of magic and fantasy that threw me for a while but not in a bad way, I just wasn’t expecting it. Super diverse in a lot of ways. I recommend this for basically everyone. I loved these stories and I am so glad that generations of people that follow will be able to see themselves and find themselves and find their friends and family members in these and in stories like these. I just have a lot of feelings right now, go read this.

I wish there had been more (any?) stories with transfemimine characters! There were 2-3 with transmasculine characters as far as I could tell, but none ? with transfeminine characters :(
I had my eye on this anthology for literal years and now that I finally read it, I have to call it a bit of a letdown, unfortunately. Most stories were just fine to me. I don't even know what my problem was. Maybe I simply don't like anthologies as much as I want to, or maybe I just can't deal with YA in this format. The queer representation was very nice and varied, but many stories felt rushed or underdeveloped, especially when they tried to sell me a plausible love story within 30-something pages. I did like "The Dresser & the Chambermaid" by Robin Talley, about two girls in the service of a princess, "Every Shade of Red" by Elliot Wake, the most diverse Robin Hood reimagining ever, and "The Inferno & the Butterfly" by Shaun David Hutchinson, about a magician's assistant who is sent to uncover the trick of a rival but discovers a magical boy instead.
The two short stories that were my favorite were Every shade of red by Elliot wake and the inferno and the butterfly by Shaun David Hutchinson

roja - enjoyed it more after the author's note giving context, trans big bad wolf Real
and they dont kiss at the end - honestly pretty sweet, very relatable if only bc he read pride and prejudice for her. and he related to bingley Love
new year - again enjoyed partly cuz the author's note talking about the inspiration behind the story
every shade of red - trans robin hood Real! lmao i did really enjoy this one, tho it ends tragically.
walking after midnight - upstate ny rep lol
three witches - i actually really enjoyed this one too, very visceral and creative, hit the right spot
