Pretty uneventful, it took some time to get through because of that. The only unique thing this story brought was it’s ability to portray light as emotions and situations.

Tender and delicate moments between a subtly melancholic woman and her vibrant 2-year-old daughter, along with all of the chaos and confusion of becoming a single mother in 21st century Japan. As a childfree woman from America, I can honestly say that this story brought me closer to a life I'll never experience, and I'm beyond grateful for it.

Beautiful dust-jacket and compact size for the hardcover, and excellent translation from Geraldine Harcourt. I look forward to more translations of this dearly departed author.

simply gorgeous, it's sad and happy and just real. loved the mom and daughter relationship, loved how they remain nameless because their story is a reality of many many people
