Meg Cabot, my new favorite author. I pretty much devour anything she writes.
Great YA book. All your favorite components, step-siblings, adorable little brother, cool social outcast, totally hot love interest, even hotter poltergeists, mystery, crazy popular girls trying to kill everyone, priests.

3rd time reading this series, and it's still a blast!
I missed Meg Cabot's humour, and just how good she is at writing stuff. I didn't think I'd love it as much as I did when I first read this book like, 11 years ago, and boy was I wrong! still love it.
and omg Jesse, the reason I became obsessed with ghosts, is still hot as ever. Gah, I love him so much.

Meg Cabot can tell a story. This is the second time I'm reading this series (first time reading around 4 years ago), not remembering almost anything from it, and I really liked it.
It has got pretty streightforward plot, captivating enough without being overwhelming, as it's only a first book in a series.
The MC has a strong and interesting voice. There's also a great cast of secondary characters. One of them being Doc (Suze's know-it-all younger half brother), Father Dominic (the principal) and of course Jesse (the love interest).
There's very light hint on the future romance that has yet to happen, and I really liked the fact that there was almost none in this first book. The romance takes time to start. Sure, Suze does appreciate the view, but we have to wait for the romantic feelings to develop. I also liked the writing, we really got to know Suze's voice and personality through it.
This is one of those books I wish I've read when I started with YA fantasy genre (around the age of 13). I would've absolutely loved and adored it then. I can still enjoy and appreciate this series now though.

2023: went back to the Mediator series since I've been in a book slump lately. Unfortunately this hasn't aged super well, but it still holds a sentiment spot in my heart as a childhood favorite.
2019: I've always always loved this book. And series. After reading and being so disappointed by book 7, I knew I needed to go back and read book 1 again, to rekindle my love for Suze and Jesse. And I loved it just as much as I did the first time. If you haven't read this series yet, go pick up this book asap. Just do yourself a favor and skip the last book.

First read when it came out
Re-read August 2016
This was just as good as the first time I read it. Omg! Amazing series! Meg Cabot was one of my favourite authors as a child and that clearly has not changed. This book was amazing even re-reading it this many years after.
This book is about a girl named Suze who can see ghosts. She moves with her mom to a new place and meets a ghost who lives in her new room. Some events unfold and basically you should really read this series!

This series is fabulous! They’re quick easy reads that are super good!!! Seriously, do yourself a favor and read these books!
It was good!!!!! The girl in it um Susannah or Suza ( what her mom callers her) is awesome ands so is father Dominic.
Another reread, I seem to be making a habit of it recently! Pretty randomly decided to have another read of this series and now I know why I loved Meg Cabot and pretty much everything she wrote, from the Princess Diaries, to All American Girl (or something like that), to the Mediator. I haven't actually read this since Year 7 or so meaning I have no idea what happens in these books anymore which is always nice.
Essentially it's about a high school girl who can see ghosts and she's got to help them move along to the afterlife or force them to if they're being particularly uncooperative. Suze, our main character, has just moved to a new home and she has this unexpected house guest in Jesse the ghost. I forgot about him till now but I can see the attraction. This book dealt with the Heather case and just sets the scene for the rest of the series. I love that Suze doesn't just wait for someone to save her and makes her own (sometimes stupid) decisions and how she was just a great character for me to read about. I don't really have much else to say other than I can see myself binge reading the rest of these and then the Princess Diaries, and then whatever other books Cabot has written and pretend to be a teenager again *I cry*.

YA has missed the mark for me for years but apparently returning to an author you like will do the trick.
