Love You to Death

Meg Cabot

3.93 AVERAGE

I had read this book a long time ago, but want to read the whole series back to back. I was surprised to notice that the main character is not that likeable in terms of her "job." She could be a bit more sensitive, but that wouldn't necessarily fit with her life story. I believe she grows throughout the series, so it'll be an interesting progression to read.

This was a series I loved when I was younger and though I still enjoyed this first book in the series now it doesn't have quite the same ring. I still believe Meg Cabot shaped by childhood/ teenage years and I still look forward to finishing this series and may even go on to reread the princess diaries.

The main character is Suze a teenage mediator who can talk to ghosts. She moves home to California hoping to get away from some troubles she was having and to live with her mam and new family however even in her new home she gets pulled into troubles. Her new school has a few teachers who can help her with her gift and a resident ghost does not like Suze making friends with her ex boyfriend.

There are some secondary characters but the most noteworthy for me is Jesse, the ghost that lives in the house with her and who if I remember correctly we get to know a lot better in the other books in the series.

The story is easy to read and the pacing is decent for a book aimed at teenagers. It's fun and very reminiscent of my teenage years, I enjoyed reading this even the second time around and look forward to continuing with the story.

3 stars

Re-read 4/24/17: This series is still perfect after all this time. It is mega cheesy and I probably wouldn't recommend it to someone to pick up for the first time nowadays, but as a nostalgic re-read, this was PERFECTION. Can't wait to carry on and re-read the rest of the series.

Re-read 11/23/15: 5 stars for nostalgia and a rip-roarin' good time. I love this series so damn much. Yes, it's cheesy and a little dated, but it is still absolute perfection. Love love LOVE.

If you're looking to reread something from your preteen/high school years, this has held up pretty darn well.

The Mediator books were always a favorite of mine in middle school some fifteen years ago. Suze and Jesse were one of my original OTPs, and their slow-burn romance brought me something only fanfiction has come close to scratching since. Upon rereading these books I can see elements of other books, shows, and movies I've loved over the years. Ceecee and Adam are the Willow and Xander to Suze's Buffy. So much of the hijinks that didn't age well in other series have held on thanks to other well-aged nostalgia.

This book begins a bit edgy but blossoms into a fond but fast romp through a familiar concept wrapped in a new universe.

LOVED this series in high school and decided to read it again. It’s a great short read! (even if it took me 12 days to finish because, life you know? Hahaha)

sis the way this series had me in a chokehold back when i was 12...

I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this book at first, but it grabbed me fairly quick and was a good read.

it was bad. ableist and racist.

This is a reread and I just love this book! It's funny, entertaining, and Suze is so spunky. Can't wait to continue rereading the series and I'm so excited for the new book coming out!
