I love Suze's humor and fighting attitude! She reminds me of Anita Blake, the vampire slayer, before all the hanky-panky. Now I am kind of addicted so I will have to read the rest of the series really quickly!

This was fun, and I'll read another because I like the relationships Suze started building with Father Dominic and her new step-family. But the writing quality was uneven, the narration extremely informal and conversational on one hand--which was fine--but on the other hand, she would do the verbal gymnastics necessary to avoid ending a sentence with a preposition. This didn't really fit Suze's style. And lines like "I was practically quaking in my Converse All Stars," were just silly and a little cringy. I was also disappointed in the ending, that Suze went through with her plan, despite her suspicions of what Heather's fate would be.
I did like the setting, and the Buffy-Giles vibe Suze had with Father Dom. Her growing closeness to her youngest step-brother was sweet too, and I appreciated that her mom and step-dad were decent people.
It's funny that something published in 2000 can feel so dated, but it is 25 years ago now, so I shouldn't be surprised. I'm not sure what 2025 teens would think of it. I'd be more inclined to think of this one for adults who like YA and remember the days before cell phones.
It was a short, mostly enjoyable, snack of a book, with characters I wouldn't mind seeing again.
