This is a VERY compelling read. The hook? A young Black man fresh out of WWII attends a carnival and is immediately besotted with a woman who seems to have a natural horn growing out of her forehead. A freak show attraction, this woman has an ethereal presence, and Bud, our narrator, cannot get her out of his mind. What follows is a meandering fever dream as Bud searches for answers from people who might know something about this unicorn woman. His travels take him from Memphis to Miami, and he meets an eclectic assortment of characters along the way.

UNICORN WOMAN is a slim novel, but it is packed with charm, truth, and contemplation. This novel is interested in myth-making, magical thinking, and Black culture in the American South, and you'll step away from it wondering if our horns are indeed all that other see of us.
