I don't know how to feel about this book.

I started this last week, but it was just so bad I couldn't get into it. I should have stopped after the first chapter, but as I have the need to finish all books, I wanted to push through this one. I just couldn't, though. I think the idea is great, but the whole book did not fit well with me. the author tried to write many details in the book, which is great, but the details are just so odd. It's like they went through the thesaurus and picked out random words that didn't really fit or describe things properly.

Not totally satisfied by the ending, but well worth a read for a literary (but entertaining) take on the werewolf genre. This book takes you on a ride. Compare to "The Passage."

I’ve been consuming this one sporadically since the fall. I had to take a break around the presidential election because elements of the plot were becoming way too real. I can’t believe Percy wrote this pre-Trump, but there you go. I guess we had it coming all along.

Anyway, this was a perfect genre story for the current moment in America. The outlook’s pretty bleak here; it’s a brutal study of populism and the mainstreaming of racial supremacy by the right. Every chapter ended with me going “Ugh.” Not for the faint of heart. Best consumed with copious amounts of bourbon.

This was fun and silly but the coincidences were just too much.

DNF after werewolf 9/11

This book wasn't an easy readind. Fist, it was too slow. Than too long. And the ending? Unsatisfying. What of Miriam? We left her damaged and ruined. Will Patrick and Claire be okay? I dont'n know, to me it just seems... unfinished. But I need to admit that it was very well written, almost poetic in its descriptions.

Non è stato facile leggere questo libro. L'inizio è troppo lento, poi diventa assolutamente troppo lungo da seguire. E la fine? Assolutamente insoddisfacente. Che ne è stato di Miriam? L'abbiamo lasciata alla fine del libro abbandonata a se stessa, ferita e danneggiata nello spirito. E cosa ne sarà do Patrick e Claire? Non so, sembra che manchi qualcosa. Però devo ammettere che la prosa è veramente eccezionale, a volte quasi poetica.

Quite a lengthy read, it takes you through a long span of time and events. The book starts off slow, then picks up speed. Unfortunately after all this it leaves quite a bit of unraveled ends. I wanted more reward for the time I invested but was disappointed with the pay off. The journey went to some interesting places but overall I'm not sure if it was worth it.

I read it because Stephen King gave it a good review...but I thought it was rather disappointing. There's something about the writing that keeps the characters aloof. And the political message is a bit overbearing and sometimes a bit nonsensical.

A truly intriguing concept that was just too much for one book.

A two or three book series would have been a better home for the story.
