This was so creepy and the imagery was enough to make my skin crawl at parts! This book explores some important themes in such a unique way. I also enjoyed the writing, especially when the next chapter would infer what happened from the previous chapter. It didn't hold your hand and left some of thr story up to the reader. I was hoping it would go just a little further with the horror as the story was building up to the climax, but it makes sense where it went since it's YA.

loved the setting, being multi pov, the characters were well developed but i couldn't connect to them as much (neera and isaiah were my faves), but maybe that's just YA for me. the prose wasn't to my personal taste and i prefer more subtle horror but some of the imagery was provoking and it definitely ramps up towards the end. the script snippets were fun. family and class commentary. and ofc i love the queer rep but the relationship is only hinted at

I was very impressed by the way Kaur wove together so many different characters, especially with a debut novel. It’s not easy to do. The audio full cast of characters helped keep everything straight too.

There was just something…missing for me. I know it’s YA, but I wanted more spook…more gore…more unsettling feelings. It’s great for someone dabbling in the horror genre, but may be lacking for those who read it often. Again, it’s YA, so I can’t judge too harshly. We don’t need to scare the pants off the children.

A very solid YA horror. A little predictable at times and the ending was a little too clean but the build up was very good. Not to be a victim blamer but my god Neera was kind of dumb, like truly couldn't put two and two together for most of the book.
