really enjoyed the story and the diverse cast, great southern gothic tale, i liked the podcast snippets and songs included and the multigenerational family dynamics

pacing was a bit off, it was a slow build which i liked, but the ending felt rushed and left me feeling like i needed a little more

As someone who has spent a decent amount of time in small rural southern towns, I loved the way this book really immerses the reader in what that feels like - both suffocating and immensely lonely, especially if you're not a straight white Christian man. I loved the diversity in the cast and the way Kaur deftly addresses the intersections of classism, racism, sexism, and old money power. Add in the allusions to small town superstitions and the devil went down to Georgia? I'm sold.
