As a girl from Georgia, I loved the premise of this book and the tie in to the Devil went down to Georgia. However, the first half of this book has some serious pacing issues. I liked it overall but I really had to push to get going on this one

One of my most anticipated reads of 2025 and it delivered in all the best ways!
When Devils Sing is eerie, emotional and steeped in secrets. There’s a slow, creeping dread to it that I loved, especially paired with that haunting Southern Gothic feel: decaying towns, family trauma and a sense that the land itself is holding its breath.
I listened to the audiobook and highly recommend it.
It reminded me a lot of The Weight of Blood by Tiffany D. Jackson. Not just in its eerie tone but in how it used podcast segments and multiple POVs to build tension and depth.
That kind of multimedia storytelling always pulls me in and the narration made the story feel chillingly real.
It took a little time to find my footing with the characters and timeline but once it clicked, I was hooked.
Kan Kaur’s writing is lyrical and grounded, weaving themes of grief, guilt and generational trauma through every chapter.

I wanted to love this plot and I like the writing … but this felt too draggt and had to stop!
