Sue isn't interested in her family trip to Honduras. She'd rather stay home with her friends, but she is given no choice and now she is stuck with all of her relatives with no modern technology to keep her entertained. To make matters worse, her mother is planning a quinceañera for Sue and she never agreed to this. Sue has to consider how a way that everyone can win in this situation and it is going to take some compromise and understanding.
I enjoyed this story other than a few choices made by the adults, specifically the mom. She treated Sue like she was only 11 or 12 and not about to turn 15. It was hard to remember her actual age in the book.
I appreciated the compromises made by all of the family members to reach an agreement that everyone could live with. I also thought it was realistic that Sue's mom forgot to hold up her end of the bargain in the middle of everything going on. It also worked well in the story for Sue to own her own decision about having a quinceañera instead of only doing it as part of a deal with her mom.
Great lessons. Colorful graphics. A fun read for tweens.

A cute story about finding your own voice and navigating multiple identities. As someone who generally scoffs at tradition and religious ceremonies, I found some parts of the story difficult to read, but ultimately the ending had a pretty good message.
Graphic: Grief and Panic attacks/disorders
Moderate: Sexism and Death of parent

This graphic novel was a real treat! The story was a lot of fun and I absolutely adored the artwork presented in it. It was colorful and full of life. The story was really well done as well. I predicted a few things in it, but I’m honestly really glad with how Sue’s quinceanera went! It felt so special! I also love the premise of learning to stop worrying what other people think of you. It is such an important lesson.
Absolutely recommend this book!
