I so much wanted to love this since I found the movie held my interest but I was in and out on this one. I just can't get into the writing style! This makes me feel like a very undeserving literature major. Then again- there are so many periods to choose from and I tend to be a 1900s/2000s girl.

Admittedly, I got lost in the middle of the book and started mixing characters up. But the last few chapters were beautiful. Especially the conversation between Isabel and Madame Merle.
