The Art of Loving

Erich Fromm

Beautiful little book that aside from showing it's time period a bit does an eloquent job of analyzing the ties that bind us all together. The final chapter is particularly illuminating.

i believe this should be read alongside "all about love" by bell hooks

Forget what you think the name implies, ignore that it was written years ago, and read it. It's not a self-help book, but it is about being human.

I didn't align with a lot of the views in this book, as there were dated biases around sexual orientation, and a lot of the generalizations weren't backed up by evidencing, but found the writing to be occasionally insightful and thought-provoking.

Overall rating: 3.5/5 stars

Definitely has some good and insightful points, but also drags on in a few parts and has some outdated comments. I don't think I've been enlightened on the topic of love, but I wasn't dissatisfied with the book either.
