Another classic I have finally got round to reading, and a cornerstone of the sci-fi genre. Definitely more philosophical than expected, but told in that story within a story way that so many Victorian novels seem to be. Straightforward and enjoyable, despite already being culturally aware of the 'twist'.

I quite enjoyed this book, such an interesting and ahead of its time novel.

H. G. Wells transport us to a post-apocalyptic future where the human race is not the top of the pyramid anymore and this is such a different way of seeing the future.

This is the kind of short story that you read in one sitting and it's totally worth it!

Brilliant, an intriguing story and excellent ending. The tale of a Time Traveller having invited several men of various influential positions to his house to tell them about his adventures into the future.

A surprisingly easy read about issues of classism that remain true to this day, highlighting how a rich man would be more likely to believe the future to be a human utopia so of course he'd come to the future unprepared for the dangers.

The Morlocks were written as convincingly terrifying and I understand why the Morlocks persist in pop culture when classism remains prevalent.

A story in a story in a story, which is always fun.

Some interesting exploration of humanity and social commentary but. The time traveller is just. So utterly unlikeable. So self-centred, inconsiderate, arrogant and small-minded.

I recognise that’s in no small part a consequence of the time. But it just constantly distracted me from the story and it’s commentary.

Beyond seeking context for cultural references (Eloi and Morlock), I wouldn’t bother tbh.
