Una rilettura di un libro studiato ai tempi dell'università - una piacevole rilettura, se posso aggiungere. Muriel Spark ci fa entrare nella Edimburgo degli anni '30, nello specifico in una scuola rigida ma con una insegnante che oscilla fra l'affascinante e lo strampalato, una mente che può essere illuminata o manipolatrice. Al lettore la scelta, Miss Brodie è di sicuro un personaggio affascinate e l'autrice usa punte di ironia per descrivere questa storia. Le sue ragazze, le ragazze Brodie, scelte per essere la crème de la crème ma solo una, Sandy, viene presentata in maniera più approfondita (d'altra parte, è lei che avrà un ruolo importante nella vita di Miss Brodie). Una tecnica interessante qui nel libro è quella del flashforward, si va avanti nel tempo e si conosce la sorte delle ragazze, facendo avanti ed indietro nel tempo ma senza essere troppo fastidioso. This is a short novel about a charismatic school teacher, the eponymous Brodie, and the so-called 'Brodie set', a group of six girls who are taught by her for several years. The book takes place in the '30s, as the girls age from 10 through their teens mostly, as well as including some parts of their lives beyond that. The time period is important since Brodie is a spinster and has affairs with other teachers, which causes quite the uproar in school. Additionally, she seems to teach her students very little of the class material, and instead indoctrinates them into her own, sometimes very unpleasant, opinions.

I had a lot of fun reading this book. The charismatic teacher really does come across as charismatic. Even though we see some of the questionable things she does, we're given facts mostly from the girls' perspectives, which helps bias us in ways I found very compelling.
