It was interesting enough and short enough for me to give it a go. I had initially thought it was essentially a 'Mr Chips' for women but it wasn't really anything like that. I'm not even sure what the point of the book was. Perhaps it was exciting at the time - was it an antidote to the 'jolly hockeysticks' sort of books which had gone before? But I can't say I would be able to sum up the plot or what I really got out of it other than a vague sense of being cheated. The characters had no real character and the plot no real plot so I felt it failed on both counts!

Me lo he leído en un suspiro y lo he disfrutado muchísimo. El juego de poder de la profesora, la importancia que esas figuras de “autoridad” tienen en nosotros y lo que nos pueden llegar a marcar de por vida y ese grupo tan heterogéneo de niñas que se convierten en mujeres a la sombra de Brodie… vaya viaje.
Los retratos del profesor se dibujo son quizá la mejor metáfora para explicar un libro que es caos y es belleza a partes iguales.
3.5 ⭐️ What a complex and multi-layered short novel. It has a lot more depth to it than I first expected. The character of Jean Brodie is fascinating: both admirable and sad at the same time, and you can’t help feel that she was ahead of her time. This is a story that explores the power of influence: both direct, from charismatic individuals over so-called impressionable minds, and indirect, through restrictive environmental factors that barricade one into certain ways of thinking and behaving. One of the big questions for me after reading this book is whether the more insidious aspects of particular characters would have emerged in the absence of pressure applied through the social mores of the day. I raced through this novel even though it wasn’t a joyful read. But it certainly made me think!

I don't know if I was the target audience for this book because it really confused me all around. I had a hard time differentiating the characters as well as keeping up with what point in the timeline the chapter was taking place. Miss Brodie left me feeling uncomfortable by the end of the book due to her actions with the girls and how she would talk to them.
