Absolutely loved it. Very quick and easy read but so emotional and funny. Loved the characters and they stuck with me. The story could have been real life and it felt like you were reading about real people's problems and how they dealt with them. So many things happened in such a small book! Will be thinking about this book for a very long time.

Engaging, but 2nd half of the book felt perhaps a tad rushed. Enjoyable overall.

“There ain’t no body in the world like book people.”

I listened to this on audio. A must read for any book lover. So many relatable quotes but I’ll leave you with one. This is a quick read too! I wanted to read it before I watch the movie later this week. If I remember I’ll update you with my thoughts after watching the movie.

Also I have a book on my bookshelf called The Secret Life of Albert Entwistle that I haven’t read but I have a feeling will have a similar vibe - without a focus on books. So I think that one will move up on my already endless TBR.

This book started out wonderfully and then fell flat. It jumped through time too quickly before some of the characters and relationships were developed enough. I wanted to learn more about Maya. Other than the fact that she liked reading, we didn’t learn much about her. Certain important plot lines were inserted carelessly and then forgotten about. Also I was frustrated with Ismay, who was an unlikeable, minor character with no personal development.
What she did to AJ and Maya was horrible, and there was never any ramifications for her behavior.  For some reason she ended up being a big part of the plot twist. She definitely should not have had such a happy ending

A book about bookshops, what’s not to love??

AJ Fikry starts as a bit of an arse, but through artful character development, I came to love him and his quirks, and even relating to him in some ways. Overall the books is light, but when heavier themes are touched upon, they’re handled sensitively. The format is unique and quirky too, with AJ’s notes heading each chapter.
I listened on audiobook and thought the narrator was absolutely perfect - exactly how I imagine AJ would sound!
