this took so long for any answers to be given and even then they weren’t complete, not in a cute fun mysterious way but in a “wow I wasted a lot of time for half baked book logic”. really interesting premise but lackluster execution

‘We Came to Welcome You’ is the type of trippy social horror novel that feels like it’s going somewhere before eventually going… nowhere? It’s actually not entirely clear. I found huge chunks of this book compelling, compulsively readable, and eerie. Author Vincent Tirado obviously had a vision for what they wanted this book to be, but I think the editors ultimately failed them. None of the threads that Tirado unravels ever come together in anything meaningful, leaving behind a confusing and sometimes rambling mess of a book that doesn’t know what it wants to be. Which is a real shame, because it started off so strong.
