Yellowfang's death
will forever be heartbreaking. This is a really strong book, I honestly forgot what this one was about specifically but once I realized I got pretty excited.
The forest fire scene is super tense, I actually really enjoy Cloudpaw's character and reading about Bluestar's degrading mental health is always chilling to the bone.
Yes this book is kind of a filler to prepare for A Dangerous Path and to process the ending of Forest of Secrets, but the slow buildup of the climax and the great character interactions more than make up to it for it to me.

The cracks in the writing are starting to show, earlier than I remember. The first book holds up imo, but the flaws in Erin Hunter’s writing are starting to be more and more obvious. Like Dustpelt and Fernpaw are a yikes 😬

It still has what makes the series special, though — the evocative worldbuilding, unique vibes, and addictive plot.

Bluestar is so interestingly-written in the first series, and she continues to be complex and compelling. The ending is really intense!

It’s still such a fun time, and I’m definitely gonna continue the series! It just doesn’t hold up quite as well as I remember.

The fourth book in the Warriors series. I'm rating this one on par with the third installment but for different reasons. Where the third one ties up some loose plot ends and developed characters in an interesting way, Rising Storm (the first part of the second half of the series) clearly throwing challenges and conflict at the clan members to overcome in the next two books and ends on an obvious, but massive, cliffhanger. There is A LOT going on, but I think younger readers would find that as exciting as I did, not confusing. However, as mentioned the introduction of challenges means that the themes tend towards the more emotionally difficult: conflict, isolation, mental illness
shown through Bluestar
, becoming homeless
shown through the forest fire
, kidnapping
shown through Cloudpaw
, betrayal, outcasting
shown through the casting out of the sick shadow clan cats who asked help
, lack of confidence, and death.
I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT MY YELLOWFANG HAS DIED. I WAS HEART BROKEN. Both she and Cinderpaw remain my favourites. Graystripe is still up there too.
