This was just the perfect little novella. The story was just the right length and covered a breadth narrow enough to feel appropriate for the length while leaving you wanting more from future installments in the series. I really enjoyed that the POV choice for this story had a purpose and was leveraged as such. There are plenty of books where it feels like the author selected a point of view style somewhat arbitrarily or based on genre norms, but there was a reason for the choice here. Honestly, everything in this book had a reason. I feel like every piece of dialogue, moment of introspection, exposition, or any other story element had a purpose. I love novellas and really good ones like this pack a punch that is often more effective than something long and drawn out in my opinion. On top of all that, I enjoyed the character work, the plot was compelling, and the world was interesting.
