EJ Noyes is excellent at displaying the effects of PTSD. In so many of her books that I’ve read, the symptoms of PTSD portrayed in her books were so validating. She depicts it in a way that surpasses just a cursory bit of research.
I love reading a book with lesbian representation that is more than just bisexual women who were hurt by men and wanted something different. Not that there’s anything wrong with it, but it’s a very common trope in popular f/f romances as of 2024. A lot of contemporary sapphic romances don’t even use the word lesbian. Plus, I enjoy an androgynous / masculine queen.
EJ Noyes also gives great lesbian age gap. She doesn’t make a huge deal about the age differences, its not the main focus of the book but it is a realistic factor in story development. All of her characters seem their age and actually act their age.
The writing style in this book is excellent and descriptive without being flowery and overinflated with adjectives.
The spice is spicy and the relationship between main characters is really good. There is admiration, lust, longing, respect, friendship, and trust displayed throughout the book by the main characters. I actually bought that they loved each other.
I appreciate more than ANYTHING that miscommunication was not utilized as a conflict point. Adults communicating in an adult way?! Unheard of. Also 10/10 for displaying a healthy visual of a causal fwb relationship. The communication even between those two characters was excellent!
I loved that this book showed breakup and make up and the struggles it takes to form a real HEA story.
This would have been that smidge better if it were dual POV.

Enjoyable read with a very good narration. I think I didn't connect as much with these characters as I had with some others from the author. Still a good read and I'm planning to get started on the sequel soon.
